Version 7.4 of the Sirius Mods was released
in February of 2009 as an interim release solely to support Beta testers of Model 204 V7R1.
It will not be generally released and will be replaced by Version 7.5 of the Sirius Mods in April of 2009.
The features of Version 7.4 will be described in the Release Notes for Version 7.5.
Version 7.3 of the Sirius Mods was released
in October of 2008, dramatically extending the benefits of Object-Oriented Programming to all Sirius customers.
Mods Version 7.3 makes O-O forms of $lists available to all, along with a large variety of intrinsic methods.
A new StringTokenizer class simplifies the creation of high performance parsing applications.
A new Sirius Mods Command and Parameter Reference Manual helps System
Managers keep up with the latest enhancements.
The new ToXmlDoc method in the Record class lets Janus SOAP customers efficiently convert the contents
of a Model 204 record to an XML Document.
Extensive support for Unicode lays the foundation for Model 204 applications to transition from
legacy EBCDIC environments to modern multi-platform architectures.
Version 7.2 of the Sirius Mods was released
in February of 2008, marking a significant milestone in the language modernization delivered by the
Janus middleware.
As of Mods Version 7.2, the Janus SOAP ULI supports exceptions, with the usual Try/Catch/Throw syntax.
Read-Only and Protected members provide additional flexibility to class designers, stopping just short of
a full-blown packaging solution.
Enhancement methods and intrinsic methods allow User Language programmers to “dip their toe” in
the Object-Oriented Programming pool, enabling a gradual adoption.
Additional system classes, such as the Dataset class simplify complex programming tasks, increasing
programmer productivity while improving application performance.
Fast/Unload 4.4 was released in September of 2007,
furthering our exploitation of 64-bit storage.
Fast/Unload 4.4 also supports a new file organization designed to improve performance on
z9 series machines, a feature that is fully enabled by Model 204 V7R1.
Fast/Unload 4.4 supports ad-hoc groups of Model 204 files,
without requiring the User Language Interface feature.
The Janus Debugger is a tool designed for software
developers who create and maintain Janus Web Server applications.
The Sirius Debugger by contrast is designed to debug classical
screen-based 3270 applications as well as batch applications.
Both of these debuggers share a common GUI-based client.
The two debuggers are tightly integrated with Model 204 and the Sirius Mods,
supporting the Object-Oriented contructs provided by the Janus middleware.
