The 2008 Sirius User Group meeting has recently concluded at the storied
Don CeSar Beach Resort on St. Petersburg Beach, Florida.
The conference theme was “Doing more with less –
the path to productivity with OOP and Janus.”
Attendees learned how the constantly evolving Janus APIs leverage Object-Oriented Programming to
increase programmer productivity and improve performance, enabling our customers to deploy more
applications with lower costs.
Copies of the slides from the presentations are available online.
The Sirius wishlist is both a list of things people would like to see in our
products and a list of features we plan on adding to those products.
It is maintained online so that all customers can monitor and influence our
product planning process.
Visit the wishlist to ensure that our plans
correctly reflect your needs.

Fast/Unload 4.4 was released in September of 2007,
furthering our exploitation of 64-bit storage.
Fast/Unload 4.4 also supports a new file organization designed to improve performance on
z9 series machines, a feature that will be fully enabled in future releases of Model 204.
Fast/Unload 4.4 supports ad-hoc groups of Model 204 files,
without requiring the User Language Interface feature.
Version 7.1 of the Sirius Mods was released
in July of 2007, replacing the Interim Version 7.0 of the Sirius Mods that
was not generally released.
Requiring two full release cycles to complete, Version 7.1 contains extensive internal changes to
support 64-bit processing along with other infrastructure changes to support future releases
of Model 204.
The Janus Debugger is a tool designed for software
developers who create and maintain Janus Web Server applications.
The Sirius Debugger is designed to debug classical
screen-based 3270 applications as well as batch applications.
Version 7.1 contains significant enhancements to the packaging, performance, and functionality
of the debuggers.
Version 7.1 continues to expand the Object-Oriented capabilities of the Janus SOAP ULI.
UL Enumerations are supported, as well as initial and default values for enumerations.
File classes can now be extended, allowing for better encapsulation of database logic.
The new Screen class provides an O-O API for dynamic 3270 screens.
Support for asynchronous daemons facilitates high-performance parallelism in UL programs.
The HTTP helper allows "post-oriented" actions with HTTP Get, making it easier for
UL to consume certain kinds of AJAX-style services.
High-level APIs based on regular expressions provide powerful text processing and parsing
facilities.
The XML API provides more controls over serialization as well as additional XPath predicates.
UL/SPF Version 6.9 was released in January of 2007.
In keeping with the new UL/SPF packaging regime, all of the various UL/SPF products are
distributed in a single Model 204 file, and the UL/SPF release designation sets the
minimum version of the the Sirius Mods required to run that release.
UL/SPF Version 6.9 extends support for model 6 custom screen sizes.
SirMon sports an improved System Overview screen as well as screens for monitoring Janus Ports
and a background monitor with optional e-mail alerts.
